I personally think Amazon Prime has better and more content to choose from compared to Netflix. (not including original content).
To keep the TV budget down, maybe do Prime for a month or 2, then switch to Netflix for a month or 2.
I can recommend https://tubitv.com/ it's free, ad based and legal. There are only a few 15 second ads per break, and the ads are the same volume as the show. Also on IOS and android.
And lastly I like https://www.justwatch.com/ca . It's a 'where is it streaming' search engine. Handy because TV packages often include streaming services from networks and such.

Torrents seem to be off the legal radar because streaming is finally fast and affordable. *Russian accent* Go ahead.. help yourself, no one arrest you anymore.
And nowadays the movie trailers say 'In theaters and streaming this Friday'. How crazy is that?
