There's still too much unknown ... Some places death rates are 10% some places are 0.1%... some age groups dying more than others, but in certain situations we are seeing young people die from it as well. I still think the virus has potential to devastate health care systems (if left unchecked) and could be much worse.
I think when you're trying to govern over large groups of people, you have to make policies for the stupidest of them all. If you are lenient and give people room for interpretation, the dummies will ruin it for everyone. If we were all sane, well kept individuals, we probably could have done this without locking people down, but we have idiots licking toilet seats and coughing on groceries.
