Keeping it simple is the right way to look at it, just like Australia and most of Europe looks at it:
If there were no guns in the first place, it wouldn't have happened, and therefore a guy with a gun wouldn't have had to *stop* it in the first place.
Just get rid of them. It really is that easy, and it would be. Our government sucks asshole but they aren't going to "come for us", there is no need for a militia. We are way beyond what the founding fathers ever meant by the 2nd amendment, which has turned out to be a piece of shit document. First amendment is the greatest piece of legislature ever made in any country, but the 2nd has has killed multiple millions of Americans in the last decade alone.
