Good luck on your recovery Lando. Also admitting it and getting it off your chest is an important step. Most stay in the same vicious cycle with absolutely no end in sight. Keep focusing on positives like your family, kids and your job. And find a lot of distractions/hobbies that can keep your mind occupied.
You're talking about prescribed pills but it's almost impossible to get any narcotics prescribed in this country anymore without a terminal disease. Most doctors got slapped big time. Street alternatives are way easier and cheaper to get.
From a law enforcement perspective I can tell you this stuff is way too easy to get in this country. We have free trade borders with the US, and two giant oceans surrounding us. Fentanyl and carfentanyl are the big dragons we are fighting now, because a small baggie smuggled in is enough to create kilos and kilos of cut product on the street that mimics heroin. We are taking down thousands of mules at Pearson with the stuff taped to their bodies or luggage, but there's only a finite number of us. In my own (unofficial) estimation 80% of mules and tainted mail gets in. And that's only Pearson/Toronto, one city. Then there are the boats, freighters coming in....we are spending 2-3 years taking down a major smuggler, while dozens of others operate in parallel. And we need all those years because courts and defense lawyers will keep the dealers out of jail without years of work building a case, evidence gathering and concrete proof.
Be strong and keep your mind busy. You are not alone, many have been in your place and suffered the same dope sickness, very few had the courage and strength to fight out of it. Best of luck!
