Agree to some degree on the writing... still a bit too early for a fair analogy. I'm 3 episodes in and it is shaping up nicely IMO so far. As far as the canon? I'm going to have to disagree. If we are going to consider this series as breaking from canon then we have to also look at every other series post original. They've all changed the look of the ST universe dramatically from the original in their own way. This one doesn't go any further than any of the other ones did by comparison.
