Because we all know clouds are good protection from the suns UV rays... A glimpse isn't bad, but really it's fucking horrible for your eyes and it's accumulative over your lifetime, so looking at it in any amount directly with your bare eyes is a terrible idea. Maybe nobody told that to Trump?
Some random had "eclipse glasses" when I was getting gas, so I was able to catch a glimpse of it at 50%. We had 78% coverage here in Calgary and it literally made little to no difference in how bright it was. There was an odd glow around and things got a little bit darker, but it wasn't anywhere close to what I was expecting.
