Yeah, yeah, Mikey. Dur, da gubermint is da problem, dur.

Most people get their healthcare insurance through their work, which is fine. But if you are self employed or run a company with just a few employees and want to provide them with a healthcare plan as part of their benefits, then you have a problem. You have no negotiating power. That is where people get raped by the insurance companies.

Obamacare was a good step to fixing that by creating pools and by mandating minimum standards of coverage. It takes time for those market based mechanisms to work though. Even so, the rise of healthcare was slowing. But that got lost in the noise of people complaining about losing their plans and seeing huge increase in the new plans. Yeah, because their old plan was a junk plan with poor coverage and high deductibles.

And it didn't help when Repubs stopped funding high risk corridors and forced insurance companies to leave those.

Repubs have been beating the anti Obamacare drum for years and now that they are in power and can make good on their promise, they are balking because they suddenly realize that Americans want healthcare to work and all they have is a hammer to smash the system with.

The latest House and Senate plans put forth by the Repubs were tax cuts disguised as healthcare reform. Both hugely consequential and tossing millions out of healthcare. A total step backwards for Americans and it pissed a lot of people off. Hence all the townhalls and angry constituents yelling at their reps.
