Socialism is extreme to anyone in North America. Especially in the US it would fail because about half of the population doesn't give a shit about anything outside of their family/home/work life. There's nothing wrong with that, it's capitalism and if a man wants to work for himself, then that is great. Socialism says that the man will work for everyone - the greater good. If only part of the population is working towards the greater good, then socialism will never work there. There's a very exact situation where socialism would work, but it won't happen in our lifetimes.
Healthcare reform, Obamacare, Medicaid all these things have nothing to do with Socialism. Healthcare should be a part of the budget and it's fucking ridiculous to not have it be so. Why does your tax money go to roads? Because almost all of you need to use roads. Why does your tax money go to schools? Because almost all of you use schools at some point. The majority of your tax money goes into the things that the public use regularly and are necessary to keep a country thriving... yes, even military to keep the country safe.
Now. How is healthcare any different than that description? Does the majority of Americans not use the healthcare system at some point or regularly? You're fucking born in a hospital and most die in one as well, so WTF? Why isn't healthcare covered by your government? In Canada we don't give the government a fucking fraction of what Americans do, even in ratio with our 30+ million population we found a way to keep all of our citizens covered completely. I know, and have always know that if something/anything happens to me that lands me in a hospital, I won't be paying anything. Regardless of circumstance.
It's actually terrifying to think that if my wife or I got cancer that we may have to fork out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars just to try and stay alive. That's a fucking travesty that so many Americans have to live with that. Get your shit together. Cut your fucking military budget so that you're keeping your country safe locally and stop trying to fight wars overseas that are costing trillions of dollars a year. If you used a fraction of the money your government spends on military you'd easily be able to cover every American, or at least be able to start up a system that allows that to work.
