I disagree. Poverty is a hell of a motivator for the motivated. When you start paying people to do nothing, a lot of people get comfortable with simply existing with all their basic needs covered by others. You can not really compare the US to other countries that may do some sort of basic living allowance because we are a different culture.
We created this country to be a place where individuals are responsible for their own success or failures and where government is out of the equation completely in that regard. I'm not going to go into what is/is not the legitimate role of government, but being a means of financial support is definitely not one of them. Take that shit somewhere else.
