VPNs with exit points in the USA are dangerous for torrents as the exit point falls under DMCA bs. Most good VPN companies do not tolerate torrent use with USA exit points. You are best served by using Canadian exit point capable VPN companies.

In Canada, ISPs send warning emails at most due to our laws. The copyright holders are not given your info. The emails direct you to a website where you area asked to give your info. Ignore them.

In the USA, they shut you down or worse, may be coerced by law to divulge your contact info to the MMPA. BUT most ISPs have a strike system.

Use a full TCP based VPN to hide all internet traffic, even the high connection count nature of torrents (the behaviour of a torrent client is easy to detect without seeing material contents) will all be contained within one encrypted connection. Your ISP will see nothing of your activity except that one connection. Be sure the VPN also ensures DNS leak blocking.

good VPN client software comes with a killswich that will disable/close apps you set it for, should the VPN connection break. This prevents apps from reconnecting on your unencrypted normal connection.

finally look up and shut off WebRTC in all browsers. This stupid API enables exposure of your LAN internal ip behind your router/cable modem to websites. Google it. fix it.
