Strange... about an hour ago I was combing youtube for clips of last night's episode of Last Week Tonight. He made so many amazing points - especially about the echo chamber that most of us live in, which the media played into so well this year. The part about Trump getting his information from right wing hack websites was something that infuriates me. So much of what I've seen on facebook and twitter were false claims about both candidates. I think Oliver was dead on when he mentioned that social media was a force in this years election alongside CNN and Fox. That's the worst part though... although CNN and Fox do some credibility checks, most of social media showed inaccurate memes and "stats". So many people bought into that bullshit too *COUGH COUGH CREEDO*. Yes, the Clinton supporters were just as bad, and that was worse. Posting garbage, factless memes and articles, although seemingly harmless, influences a huge chunk of the public. Especially those naive ones that think it's real because their cousin Cletus re-posted Clinton's killing spree during the race. Really though, Trump supporter, Clinton supporter, neither... go watch the last episode of Last Week Tonight w/ John Oliver. It's a great one. Oh, and FUCK YOU 2016. |
