It was not illegal, but the retention policies were against the spirit of the FoIA.
Both the purge that happened, and the recovery from the cloud backup. Also, having contempt for those that tried to correct her poor data security adherence was a foul.
The cover-up and brushing it under the rug is the tip of a bigger root cause, IMO.
