As far as solutions, I don't see anything happening ever.
We are so completely divided on this topic it almost rivals the 2 party system (which for this topic isn't mutually inclusive).
I'd like to see minor changes that inconvenience responsible gun owners without infringing on their rights, but might be enough to deter the bad seeds.
The only way I see that happening is more government/oversight, which...just isn't going to be agreed upon.
Even if new laws were passed results would take years, but the outrage would be daily, and may even incentivize some to perform ghastly acts due to their "infringed freedom".
