It appears to be falling, but I'm not convinced that it's a continuing trend.
You are correct in saying that polls, graphs and statistics are being used by both sides to misconstrue the reality. It's a tactic used to persuade somebody on the fence about the issue and all of a sudden they see a graph and immediately pick a side. Most of them are cherry picked, but there are many articles from great sources that account for both sides and show data from both sides, with no apparent agenda. That's what you need to look for to get some ounce of truth.
