Further, if this were an issue of "Gun Control works, but has unacceptable tradeoffs for a vocal contingent of the population"... that would be one thing.
But it's actually not clear at all that gun control works, especially in an environment such as the current US. In fact, simple before/after comparisons of the most popularly brought up examples (UK/Australia) shows that there is little discernible impact.
Then you get into the whole "well something is better then nothing/we can't just do nothing/etc" lines which is really the last bastion of the deluded.
