Fiber to the house is as good as it is going to get in the next 10 plus years. The only limits are the lasers pushing the light and distances (light does weird things over long distances).

Inside the home Cat 6 Ethernet is generally cheaper to deploy. Plus with the proper equipment pushing the signal Cat 6 can do up to 10 Gbps under 100 meters. So really if I were building a home today I would wire it Cat 6 and plan for optimum 802.11ac (Wi-Fi).
