DOCSIS 3.x is a really good technology for coax/fiber hybrid networks. Around here Comcast has DOCSIS 3.0 deployed. They sell it in 70/12 packages, but are over-subscribed by probably 15-25%. So its performance drops significantly during peak hours. Companies will try to get every penny out of existing copper for as long as they can (who can blame them really), but all fiber networks will win in the end. It is the only technology that can keep up with future bandwidth demands.
