Drones have a gyro to keep them level. Add GPS and they'll also hover in one spot. Without GPS they'll stay level, but drift all over the place up down and side to side.

With GPS they can fly 'home' if they lose transmitter signal. And that's about all for recovery mode. So my drone was doing it's best to stay level based on the gyro.

Store bought drones will always be fragile because of keeping consumer cost down. Most racing drones are DYI. Guys use carbon fiber decks and props. You could probably hit a tree with minimal damage. Shock damage from the sudden stop I suppose. Race drones are just flying boxes.

Dutch police are teaching eagles to take out drones...
