it is cheaper, but tech companies are going to wring the very last dollar out of current tech before going balls to the walls on OLED. ten years ago it was moonlight tech, and now it's just dawning on the world. maybe in another 5-10 years these keyboards will start to come to fruition.
back-lit keyboards are now just becoming a thing. this is the first baby step towards the optimus maximus. get the general public hooked on the idea of a lit keyboard first, then make a few keys OLED such as the app buttons (calc, internets, mute, wifi, etc.), and then suddenly the whole keyboard becomes pimpified
