Uh... I choose NVidia because of the company's past history of writing very good drivers. They are constantly updating and revising their drivers to squeeze the most out of their cards. In the past ATI's card have been crap (ATI All-in-wonder anyone?) Thats not to say that their NEW one isn't good... just that I choose not to be the guinia pig :P I'll let someone else (like you) pay to find out if its better :) If it turns out that ATI has changed their tune then maybe I'll get whatever card they put out AFTER the 8500. :P For now my money is still on NVidia.
