Subject: Quake Live: WFA, Acrid & True Combat

Quite soon now id Software will roll out Quake Live, which because it will be free, and offers many game balancing and match-making features that match players up with players on teams of equal skill has even industry Pundits assuming it will be more successful then Quake III Arena.

For those here that don't already know about Quake Live; for the most part Quake Live will be Quake III Arena in a new wrapper which will, also for the most part, make/keep Q3A mods compatible with Quake Live -- though some touch up will be needed to make them run, and work with the new Quake Live web features...

Here's one more generous window opportunity and plenty of time for WFA to to take advantage of a new wave of popularity for new recognition, and to leverage some of the clever new features and technology Quake Live offers that could easily help WFA sustain a new, larger and longer lasting Audience -- which would be especially valuable as WFA has rather a steep learning curve.

There are an enormous number of man hours of work in the original WFA that Quake Live could offer a new opportunity for everyone to get on board and row the boat one last short trip to finally get the mod the level of recognition it once had (or better) and deserves. It warrants mention that for mods like WFA, with Quake Live being free, and all the assets being in place to mod for free -- this will be a much faster track to visibility and popularity then any of the WFA spin-off projects.

Personally, and I know there are many of similar mind that lost interest in WFA after Acrid stopped working on the mod, and the game design was changed radically in new hands; from one of balanced defensive mod where the offense had to work very hard to score -- to an offensive mod where score whoring fast capture prevailed, defensive classes became a superficial accessory to game-play, and only ridiculously skilled Clan players (a small fraction of WFA's Audience) continued to play and enjoy WFA, and not for very long at that.

Many I know would like to see Acrid's original contributions to game design at least offered as a play option, and WFA resurface in one form or another; Quake Live definately offers that opportunity if the requisite Talent was willing. Acrid, Race & Co. could also see their more popular version of True Combat run on Quake Live with a modest investment of effort, as the German developed ET version of that mod has again been abandoned by its German Developers...
