The driver immaturity that I was referring to was in Linux, not windows.
The windows drivers for both are nice.
The benchmarks you were looking at with the 8500s actually were fudged. Go back and look and see the drivers that were being used. Any benchmark I've seen where an 8500 beats a high end geforce3 the Q3 optimized ATI drivers were used.
