My question is this, why did england give in to you without a war. The answer is simple, their other colonies started to stand up to them and they couldnt maintain their empire. Britan realized they lost 2 wars in North america at the height of their power. In the 1870s they werent as powerful as they were in the early 1800s so why would they risk a 3rd north american war? They gave in because OTHERS fought them throught the world, not because you said please.
