I think it may have just been a Beast moment and not really telling of a greater scheme.
I wouldn't say ALWAYS, most of all we have to understand how much fade is Beasts' peer and he strives to be more like him. Secondly, the challenge on Beasts intelligence immediately causes a sort of Ram like instinct to emerge or maybe badger is a better likeness. Can you fault him for it?
