I think HST lived his life the way he wanted and he checked out the same way. Suicide isn't always despair IMO. If you got some kind of untreatable and painful medical condition, its a more dignified way of dying. But make sure you get a 2nd & 3rd opinion first. Some doctors' degrees aren't worth wiping your arse with. :P
