That's true, Soli. At it's peak, it was more popular than I lead on in my post. I never recall close to 100 servers, though (I've been wrong a trillion times before).
I just think, relatively speaking, the mod wasn't popular. New players who tried it loved the "idea" of it, but quickly got frustrated and gave up. Vets who tried it called it gay for having grapples (high learning curve) and auto-aiming bots (sentries). Each release meant fewer and fewer servers.... and players.
It just seems the other mods had much longer "staying" power. WFA continued to get better and better... but its popularity (or lack thereof) didn't reflect that. Makes you go hmmm.....
