OMG, a little vindication, thank you! I get so worn out from remarks like "Dude STFU! Like Doom 3 sounds like make my windows rattle dude, you like totally don't know WTF yer talk'n about!" (an actual quote; punctuation, spelling and case corrections added for clarity). That these and other simplistic sentiments are so ubiquitous makes it a virtual certainty we are in any danger of seeing the equivalent of Art Film in games and game design anytime soon.
But sound design can go a lot further than just fidelity, and unfortunately for me (as I appear to be in the minority) Doom 3 fails tin that regard for me as well.
Kill me, stone me, call me an idiot, hate me; I rather see a French film like Diva then Independence Day any day; and some day there may even be a game that shows the difference -- maybe I'll even get to help make it.
