well that's a balance. One of the benifits of the client/server split is that you can run all ai on another server, seperate from the renderer.
quake when you run it connects a client to a local server.
the AI i did actually has some military applications as well; I have a writeup on it. The targeting/assesment code is pretty damn cool, the awareness recognition is coded in as well; the only thing it needs is a delivery system (how to actually get it on say, a segway).
