Nvidia ignores standards when it suits their purpose to, not just ATI. They are both guilty. I just think Nvidia is worse.
I know when I was doing DirectX programming I HATED working with Nvidia cards, at least with ATI ones I knew if it worked on 1 it was generally going to work on the rest whereas the Nvidia it could run on one card and then it wouldn't work on another
