I understand bout the 45 degree wall, but can you create a new object class that you can dump lasers and other "sticky" objects into that will spawn an axis aligned trigger box, regardless of the mounting orientation of the item. Just have to make sure the bounding box of the trigger doesn't protrude through walls etc, which if I am right, the engine will place properly to begin with if you tell it to place a axis aligned trigger there. although, if it's using radius distance checks, why would the 45 degree angle wall cause any problems?
