The whole vis thing is nice; great to have that much control. Try dealing with "anti-portals" in Unreal. They can be ok in large open areas but you can get a headache when trying to anti-portal an inside level. Hint brushes are great...I never had a problem getting my head around them (I think). Didn't I see a post somewhere about some sort of line o' site code added to the vis machine? Kinda how anti-portals work in the open in Unreal.
