I just spend 3 hours reading about radar/laser detectors/jammers, very interesting stuff. Who would have knew that there were so much hoax devices out there solely marketing crap and laser jammers actually work, but radar almost always don't.
As for your problems, all I can think of are asserts, if you are not already familar with it, then they are small chokepoints that check sanity and are only included in a debug release, just put them about everywhere something can be out of bounds/checked otherwise, etc. Those simple micros have been unbelievable time safing for me and help spot bugs that would other wise have slipped right through.
