Get a Hammerhead, or at least a Valk...
Go to Sheffield Station in Manchester (NewYork>California>Magellen>Manchester)
Kill their depots. Then kill them. Cruise around manch until your rep is good enough. Then head for the Omicrons.
Of course, if you want a ship that isn't a giant pig that will be raped by any competent pilot, you want an Eagle, or at least a saber.
