You want to select a .map - choose your options - click build.
One of the many benifits with q3map2 is simply speed. You can get high quality compiles (no jaggies) in less time then you could with the compiler that comes with GTK.
I suggest hitting someone up in #wfamaps or #q3map2 on irc.enterthegame.com and asking for some real time help.
