read the bspc.txt that came with radiant. it just gives guides, every mapper does their own thing. What works for bots also works for players, like clipping, dimensions, etc.
its good to keep things at minimum 32 grid for structure, maybe 16, but you are asking for trouble when you start going smaller.
definitely read all the manuals first, it helps.
